SODEN COLLECTION

Founded in 2017, Soden Collection is a contemporary art gallery based in the heart of Shrewsbury, dedicated to presenting a carefully curated programme of both emerging and established artists. With a strong focus on long-term artist relationships, the gallery brings together contemporary practice alongside selected modern masters, creating a thoughtful dialogue between past and present.

Working closely with private collectors, interior designers and institutions, Soden Collection offers a highly personal, advisory-led approach. From first-time buyers to seasoned collectors, the gallery provides guidance on building collections that are both meaningful and enduring, with services including sourcing, commissioning, framing and installation.

As part of the Shrewsbury Arts Trail 2026, Soden Collection is proud to support the programme through the loan of a monumental painting by Ian Rayer-Smith to Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery. Rayer-Smith, a Manchester-born artist, draws on a rich visual language that bridges contemporary abstraction with historical influence. The work on display takes particular inspiration from Wynford Dewhurst, often referred to as “Manchester’s Monet,” creating a subtle connection between two artists shaped by the same city.

 

July & August 

A Summer Exhibition at Soden Collection, featuring a new series of works by Ian Rayer-Smith, inspired by Wynford Dewhurst and the wider Impressionists, extending this dialogue through a new and focused body of work, alongside painting, sculpture and ceramics, all available to collect.

Visitors are warmly invited to experience the gallery on Wyle Cop, where art is presented not just to be seen, but to be lived with.
